Japan PI has been originally based on an online shop + telework business environment, so the effects from the coronavirus pandemic are minimal. However, it is unavoidable to go out and move during the field investigation, so when moving, all employees at Japan PI take the utmost care in preventing infection.
The main business of Japan PI is inbound investigations from overseas (investigations in Japan requested by overseas clients). We also conduct outbound investigations (overseas investigations assigned by Japanese clients), but in this case, we are offering referral services of local PIs in overseas. As a result, the number of overseas business trips at Japan PI has been quite small, except for the attendance of the meeting events of international PI associations. And since the outbreak of the coronavirus, employees of Japan PI have never traveled overseas.
Infection prevention measures
Specifically, the following items are implemented as infection prevention measures when traveling outside the home.
- Keep social distance (avoid crowds)
- Wash hands frequently
- Frequently wipe hands with disinfectant sheets
- Wear a mask
- Refrain from going out unnecessary
Interview with customers
Japan PI has been originally based on online business. Even if a meeting is necessary, we avoid direct interviews and choose to hold meetings via telephone or online communication via Skype. However, if you would like to have an in-person interview, you can do so. Since its inception, employees of Japan PI have been primarily engaged in telework, and the situation has not changed. In that sense, the Japan PI offices are not the environment where unspecified majority gather.
At the time of entering our offices, we are currently considering introducing the system to measure the body temperature with a non-contact thermometer and refrain from entering those with fever. If such a system is adopted, we appreciate your understanding.
The status of International detective associations
WAD (World Association of Detectives) and CII (Council of International Investigators), where Japan PI is a member, have two meetings each year. WAD has two general meetings each year; the Mid Term Board Meeting and the Annual Grand Meeting. At CII, Regional Meetings and the Annual Grand Meeting are held annually.

Number of infected people and the number of tests in Japan
Worldmeter lists statistics on the latest cases and tests of coronavirus infections.
According to the statistics on this site, as of March 14, 2020, Japanese infected people ranked 15th in the world and the number of tests was 14th. It is good that the number of infected people does not increase rapidly, but I am worried that the number of tests is also declining. Countries with low numbers of tests but high numbers of infected people are most at risk. At least, unless the number of tests increases, the exact number of infected people cannot be determined. In that sense, we cannot be negligible at all just because the number of infected people in Japan is not so increasing.
